Suggested Supply List
5th Grade
-
Adult Scissors - we do lots of cutting and the students need a good pair of scissors.
-
One 2" 3-Ring Binder
-
Six Three Hole Punched Two-Pocket Folders - DO NOT get the folders that have the brass brads in them, they need to go onto the rings in the 3-ring binder. Do not pre-label them; we will be labeling them in class a certain way.
-
Pencils, pencils, pencils!
-
Notebook Paper, 3 hole punched
-
Colored Pencils - We do a lot of labeling, identifying, and color-coding. Colored pencils work much better than crayons, or markers, for this and look much more professional, too.
-
Washable Markers - Please do not send permanent markers to school, including Sharpies. Thanks!
-
Crayons - Please don't go overboard on the crayons. Usually a box of 48 is plenty for what we do with them, and they become a storage problem.
-
Highlighters & Dry Erase Markers
-
Ruler & Protractor
-
Blue or Black Ball Point Pens
-
Kleenex - The school does not provide Kleenex. We usually end up needing two boxes per child to make it through the year.
-
Anti-Bacterial Wipes
We will be using the dictionary a lot. I have found two dictionaries that are especially good for 5th grade students. They have understandable, kid friendly definitions. They are costly, so I don't expect you to purchase them. However, if you are interested in purchasing one, or both, of them for your child, they are:
1. Oxford Elementary Learner's Dictionary (ISBN 0-19-431275-5)
2. Collins Cobuild Student's Dictionary (ISBN 0-00712034-6)
They can be found at most bookstores.
*Use a permanent marker to put your name on all your school supplies, except the Kleenex, washable markers and anti-bacterial wipes. You will be sharing these items with the class.*
