Meet Mrs. Dougherty

Dear Students,

Hi!  I am Mrs. Dougherty and I am going to be your teacher for 5th grade.  Although this in only my third year at Las Brisas, I have been teaching for a long time - you are my 18th class!  Before coming to Las Brisas, I was a teacher at Desert Sage for nine years.  I have also taught at Arrowhead, Mountain Shadows and Cholla (Casa Grande) Elementary Schools.  I have taught 1st through 5th grade.  You will be my tenth 5th grade class.

I have been married for 17 years.  I have two children.  My daughter is in 8th grade and attends Hillcrest Middle School.  My son is in 5th grade and attends Las Brisas.  I also have 2 cats, Patch and Sassafras, or Sassy as we call him most of the time.

I love to take pictures, and our family goes on many weekend trips looking for adventure and photo opportunities.  Some of our favorite family destinations are Drift Fence Lake, which is in the White Mountains, Rocky Point, the North side of Lake Pleasant, the Pine/Strawberry area, and any other location we can find to ride our quads, enjoy nature and roast marshmallows around a campfire. 

I can't wait to get to know you better.  I have many fun things planned for the school year.  The 5th grade teachers have been working on getting some field trips planned, as well as some other special activities.  We will be going on a Misson to Mars, at the Challenger Space Center, visiting the Halle Heart Center, and you will be applying for a job, working in a business and helping to run our own city at Junior Achievement's Exchange City.  I think you are really going to enjoy this year.  I hope it is a memorable one for you!
